What is art psychotherapy?
Art therapy is an established form of psychotherapy, delivered by trained art therapists (also known as art psychotherapists).
Art therapy uses creative processes like drawing, painting, or ceramics as the primary mode of expression to help you explore your thoughts and feelings alongside talking with an art therapist.
It aims to reduce distress and improve social, emotional and mental health by promoting insight, self-compassion and a sense of agency and self-worth.
During art therapy, you are supported by an art therapist to use art to express and articulate often complex thoughts and feelings through art making. This may be following difficult or traumatic experiences which may be hard to talk about.
It is about using art as another way to express what’s happening inside, especially when words don’t feel enough.
You don’t need to be “good at art” to work with an Art therapist.
Art psychotherapy can help with:
understanding and expressing difficult emotions
reducing stress and anxiety
building self-awareness and confidence
supporting neurodivergent ways of processing and communicating
finding new perspectives through creative exploration

Experience…
I have extensive experience of offering therapeutic support for schools and organizations, working with children, families, parents and adults over more than 13 years. I have specialized in the clinical area of the mental health of children and young people. The training I have undertaken has focused on personality development, emotional development, attachment and the impact of trauma on development.
With a background in fine art I offer a creative, gentle and attuned approach, adapting to each person’s individual needs. My aim is to create a safe and welcoming space where you feel heard, understood; a space where you can explore and connect with your own creativity, feel empowered, and find a way forward that feels right for you.
You do not have to be good at art, you will not be judged, you can create at your own speed in your own way.
Your artwork does not get ‘analyzed’ but we do think about it together in a safe non-judgemental way
I have had experience of supporting a broad range of emotional and mental health needs arising from experiences such as
Trauma, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Sexual abuse, Substance misuse, Trans, Bereavement, Domestic abuse, Self-harm, Suicide, Eating disorders, Neurodiversity, learning disabilities, Identity-related issues and Challenges faced by looked-after children.
